Consequences of Insufficient Powdering |
One of the most common errors in powdering is underpowdering. Notice the two images below and see how the underpowdered areas in the intensity image cause corresponding rough areas in the virtual model. |
In contrast notice the below well-powdered intensity image and the extremely smooth vitrual model. |

The All-New Powder Meister has very different characteristics than the old instrument. Amoung other things, the powder layer is much finer. Because this powder layer is so fine, it is almost impossible to overpowder or to get snow drifts. However, since this layer of powder is so thin and even, it is necessary to completely dry the imaging liquid before powdering to avoid seeing dark areas. Vita imaging liquid can be quite difficult to dry. Any moist areas will appear on the optical image as dark spots. It can take some time to get the correct degree of powder cover if the imaging liquid is still wet. On the other hand ProCad imaging liquid is very easily dried. Below is a test image comparing ProCad liquid vs Vita
liquid. In this test both imaging liquids were dried for 4 seconds and
powder was applied for 14 seconds. You will notice how splotchy looking
the image is with the Vita liquid and how nicely opaque the image is
in which ProCad liquid was used.
