The quest for mastery is a dental practice's lifeline. It is the most compelling answer to apathy and inertia. |

Imagine a hypothetical clinical situation: Two different clinicians doing exactly
the same procedure; on exactly the same tooth; on the same patient; and at the same
time. Yes, I know this is an impossible situation, but we're using our imagination.
We can do anything we want! One clinician sails through the procedure with a high level of ease, completing the case with an excellent result. The patient is satisfied, commenting that the processes was not as bad as she had feared and committing to herself that she was going to send her spouse to this office for an initial exam. The other clinician also gets the case done, but it was a struggle. The result was acceptable, but both clinician and patient are tired. The patient is in a hurry to leave the office, and the clinician is now thirty minutes behind in the day's schedule. |

Two identical scenarios, yet, two very different outcomes. What is the difference? Details! Achieving the first scenario's positive outcome is simply the result of mastering the necessary attention to details. And mastering the details involves identifying what individual parts of a clinical procedure cause problems, and systematically solving those problems one at a time. Mastering the clinical details by problem solving the areas of consistent difficulty can be done through personal trial and error or by utilizing the resources of others. This clinician has accumulated a great deal of clinical information over the course of a 30-year professional career in dentistry. This information has come from a variety of resources and masterful clinicians; it has also come from a process of trial and error as well as self-discovery. The CLINICAL TIPS section of this web-site is designed to provide the reader with opportunities to master the details of the CEREC process. The tips have been divided into categories for ease in referencing. This section will be updated frequently; check back often! |

Mastering the details is an ongoing process which
requires a willingness to try or "re-learn" various disciplines. However,
the rewards of mastering the subtle details in the CEREC technique allow
dentistry to be much more efficient, more effective and more pleasurable.
Before moving on to the CLINICAL TIPS, a word about the PHILOSOPHY of practicing dentistry. Unless a clinician has developed a meaningful philosophy of how to provide dentistry, the opportunity to fully implement the CEREC technique will be diminished. If you are interested in discovering a philosophy of dentistry that will serve your patients and your staff as well as you, please look at the Philosophy page. If you have feedback, positive or negative, please tell me. My e-mail is lawler@kiva.net. I will gladly give credit for clinical tips that you send and that are used.
