Frequently Asked Questions

"It is quick, exact, neat and fun to powder with the Powder Meister"

How is the Powder Meister installed?
Go here for European installation

Custom installation of the Powder Meister requires the installation of a female quick disconnect in the handpiece delivery system. The installation must be done so that the air is regulated by the foot control. A service technician can quickly and easily accomplish this. Included with the Powder Meister is a male quick disconnect which easily couples with the installed female attachment. The Powder Meister can be readily moved to any other treatment room which has an installed female quick disconnect.

When I first use the Powder Meister I get a huge snow ball. Why?

Unlike the butane powered system or other powdering devices, the Powder Meister will not clog. Because of this, it is easy to be careless and store it on its side or even upside down. This is no problem, but the excess powder that finds its way to the powdering tube when the instrument is on its side must be first cleared before powdering the tooth. Merely expel this extra powder in a non-critical area near the prep or in the assistant's suction tube by applying maximum air pressure. You are now ready for optimum powdering.

I either get too much or not enough powder. What is the problem?

Too little power coming out? Do you have enough powder in your powder bottle??

Too much powder coming out? Try reducing the volume of powder in the powder bottle. The more powder in the bottle, the faster it will come out. A small amount of powder in the bottle goes a long way!

"I ordered my Powder Meister the day I got my CEREC ! It is AWESOME!"

How much powder should I put on the tooth?

Just because the tooth looks white to your eye after powdering doesn't mean that the infrared camera will be satisfied. It is my observation that most clinicians underpowder the preparation. Underpowdering leads to a more frequent need to edit the cavosurface line. Or worse, underpowdering can lead to the misreading of z values by the CEREC. See this example of powdering that will assure an absolute minimum of editing and maximum ease of fitting the milled restoration.

Won't the powder in the Powder Meister clump when it comes in contact with water in the airline?

Yes, that situation would cause a problem. Be sure to periodically change the cotton roll in the air-line filter to remove any trapped moisture.

Do I have to use the imaging liquid?

The imaging liquid is absolutely essential for excellent powdering. There are those who attempt to merely dampen the tooth with water to help the powder to stick. However, the same air flow that takes the powder to the tooth also evaporates the moisture that was intended to help adhere the powder. The imaging liquid is a glycerin and water combination that makes the surface of the tooth slightly sticky, causing to powder to adhere very nicely.
