A 1971 graduate of the Indiana University School of Dentistry, David Lawler began using the
CEREC 2 technology in June of 1997. He was immediately impressed with CEREC 2's ability
to provide well-fitting porcelain restorations that allowed a much more conservative
approach to restorative procedures. However, he was also immediately frustrated with the primitive
methods of applying opaquing agents to the tooth prior to the optical image. This frustration
led to the development of the Powder Meister.
A real CEREC enthusiast, he has conducted many introductory workshops on CEREC technology at his office in Bloomington, Indiana. He has lectured on the topic of powdering at an advanced CEREC workshop in Palm Beach, Florida, presented to the Canadian Academy of Computerized Dentistry's annual Computerized Dentistry Symposium, and was the keynote speaker at a CEREC symposium in Düsseldorf, Germany . Other speaking engagements on CEREC include the 1999 Indiana Dental Association annual conference and the Indiana University School of Dentistry Continuing Education programs. Dr. Lawler recently appeared on the cover of Patterson Today in conjunction with an article featuring his experiences with CEREC . Dr. Lawler said good-by to his beloved Gracey (his CEREC 2) and welcomed Amazing Grace (the new CEREC 3) into his office in 2001. He is shown below left in a loving embrace with Gracey. |

Prior to using CEREC in his office, Dr. Lawler spent years working toward mastery of restorative procedures that would lead to predictable, long lasting, comfortable and esthetically beautiful restorations. Applying these same concepts to the CEREC procedure, he shares his experience in the CLINICAL TIPS section. As with any clinician that has practiced dentistry for a number of years, he has had many opportunities to observe and participate in some unsuccessful human interactions. Seeing the enormous stress that these encounters bring to an office, and realizing that there must be a better way, has led to a philosophy of dentistry that has nourished both the patients and the dental team. The result has culminated in more satisfied patients, a happier staff, and an increased case acceptance. These insights are shared in the PHILOSOPHY section. |
