Powdering : subgingival margins

There is no reason why porcelain bonding needs to be limited to supra-gingival preparations. However, if the margins cannot be seen they cannot be powdered and if the control of bleeding can not be accomplished the restoration cannot be bonded.

There is no more efficient or patient friendly way of powdering subgingival margins than using the Odyssey diode laser from Ivoclar.

The laser creates bloodless cutting of tissue as is shown below and allows for the subgingival margin to be easily exposed for effective powdering and predictable bonding.

These images show the result that can be achieved in exposing subgingival margins with an Odyssey diode laser. Bleeding is completely controlled no matter what the condition of the tissue.
